The deer is my inspiration!!!
The deer is an interesting creature! It is fundamentally a prey species and has a host of predators in the food chain depending on geographic region, that ranges from coyotes, bears, mountain lions, bobcats, wolves, lions, etc. When I think of deer, I think of the female human species. Women, girls, toddler girls, and all other human iterations of femaleness.
In many ways, we are wired to be weaker than men when it comes to physical strength. But this is not our only weakness. Society generally expects us to be subservient to men. The Bible said it too and all the other absurdities that we have been indoctrinated with over multiple generations since time immemorial. Mothers are revered, but young women are different. It is as if once we move from child to adolescence we become fair game for the gawking masculine stand-arounds, bulging with testosterone. In many cultures, women cannot even vote or wear clothing of their choice. We buy the “locker room’ talk as benign. After all, we women are competing for the limited eligible men. They protect us. On top of this there are are the songs we grew up on. I myself loved Olivia Newton John singing, “Carried Away.:” I turn to you, you turn away, you’re looking at someone else, And here am I, loving you more and more, we’ve got an open door, my love….” I cringe when I sing it today. What was I thinking?
But the saga of life goes on. So what about the deer? The deer represents the beauty of surrender. Surrendering to their fate on the food chain. I dare say, surrendering with dignity. I see the deer as running as fast as they can from their predator but when they are overtaken they surrender to death. In dying, they nourish another in the food chair, albeit for a short time. So is the cycle of life. Nothing in a true sense provides the ultimate satiety. The only true satiety comes from our unity with the Infinite. How can we outwit our earthly destiny? By embracing our genetic fate. Senescence is about growing old. We can grow old with dignity. We can surrender to death with grace.
And what does all of this have to do with women? It is about being okay to be physically weak, so long as we are smart. I believe at the pre-incarnation phase, that we choose the gender we descend on earth as. Each gender has their predicament. Men may appear to have power in a 3 D way, but it is so interesting to see more women embarking on spiritual paths. I’m talking not about religious ortodoxy but rather that path dictated from deep within. Our personal relationship with the Divine. So long as we women aspire to a life of true freedom, we will realize the power of the deer. The deer in embracing death realize the deepest form of freedom.
